During a period of internal-unrest as a result of a rough period in his life, Lucas McFadden, best known to the world as Cut Chemist (of Jurassic 5Ozomatli), found himself isolated from the world and artistically uninspired. Met with the choice of giving up or getting up off the mat, the legendary sample-based DJ found an unlikely way of reintegrating with his craft: he start using live musicians in his mixes.

The result would become Die Cut, the sophomore album from Cut Chemist and his first solo album since 2006’s critically lauded The Audience’s Listening. Featuring more live instrumentation and experimentation than ever before, the album, which features appearances by Deantoni Parks (The Mars Volta), Biz Markie, actress Erika Christensen (Parenthood), tune-yardsFarmer Dave ScherDexter Story, and more, serves as a natural progression and opens a new chapter in Cut Chemist’s storied career.

In a lot of ways, Die Cut is a rebirth the McFadden has earned.
